What is DUI?

DUI stands for “driving under the influence.” It is a criminal offense that occurs when a person operates a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, impairing their ability to drive safely. The level of intoxication required to be considered a DUI varies by state, but it typically involves a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher. DUI laws also apply to operating other types of vehicles, such as boats, motorcycles, and bicycles, while under the influence. The penalties for a DUI can include fines, license suspension or revocation, and even jail time.
